The Source is located at 4228 Route NY-212 (hamlet of Lake Hill) in the town of Woodstock, NY. The outdoor exhibition space is located on lands that were once sacred to the Munsee and Lenape people. The property was part of a much larger farm in the 19th century, then reincarnated as a Beaux Arts style artists colony ‘Garden of the Gods’ founded in 1908. During this time many artists came to Woodstock creating various retreats for artists, including Byrdcliff, which was founded in 1902 and the early Maverick Colony, founded in 1905. Then in the 1930’s the property was converted from a summer resort called Wildwood Farms, to serve as the New York Youth Association’s temporary quarters for boys. In 2019 The Source opened as an experimental space for sustainable community. We have regular events, including our yearly art show for Upstate Art Weekend.
